“Journey through Awes” – Reflecting on 60 Years of Painting

At the end of stories, jokes, books, experiences, there is a lesson, a punch line, a summary, an epilogue, or a finale. There is a reason for sharing experiences or journeys’ tales. Something is there to be learned or taught. I hope through this exhibition to share the lesson I am being taught. A lesson spanning 60 years.

Every piece of artwork here started with an “awe” moment. A moment of energy where the desire to create was invested onto the paper or canvas as strokes and lines. Those strokes and lines merged into shapes and representations of objects or places.

But what was the source of the energy behind the “awe?”

The energy fueling my work has a source: it is GOD.  And, as I have begun to learn, the reason I was inspired is because what I was beholding, seeing, or feeling was symbolic or the metaphor for something that is truly “Awesome!”

A creator telling a greater story about an existence that transcends what I can see and represent. Nevertheless, without my moments in front of the easel or landscape, I might miss the moment of AWE. Using the energy given is required.

This painting journey is focused on these 4 categories: places, relationships and people, growth, and Stories and experiences.
